According to coverage from the Commercial Carrier Journal, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) increased fines across the board for violations of federal trucking regulations.

The increase is in cooperation with the Federal Civil Penalties and the Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015, which requires the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to annually adjust fine amounts according to inflation.

A Final Rule published Wednesday, April 12, declared the increased fine amounts officially effective on April 22. The cost-of-living adjustment this year was a multiplier of 1.01636 on the price of all violations.
